John Cook - A Great Stalwart of Our Sport

Published 16th June

On Sunday 13 June 2010, John Cook, a great stalwart of our sport, very sadly passed away.  John had a passion for horseracing, he worked for Lord Crawshaw at Whatton Hall as a stud groom.  John trained Arabians very early on and in 1991 he had great success with a sprinter called 'Moments' for owner Louise Humphrey.   John became an owner in recent years and attended almost all of our meetings every season where he gave ARO continued support throughout.  Our thoughts and sympathy goes out to John's friends and family.

RACE PLAN CONSULTATION
Thursday 20th May to Thursday 27th May

Following numerous conversations with members with regards to the above, we have decided to open a period of consultation on the remaining race programme for 2010.

This will open from Thursday 20th May until Thursday 27th May. Your comments should only be made by letter, e-mail or fax (01635 230200). Telephone calls will not be recorded.

The reason for opening this consultation period has come about following comments on the race plan and opportunities for horses to run. You must appreciate that due to the very late registration of horses, with over 80% of the horse population registering just prior to Wolverhampton, it was impossible to anticipate what type of horses would be running and the range of handicap bands. Constructive comments on the race plan would be most welcome so that we can then review the remainder of the season in light of the current horse population.

We look forward to your replies. Please address all replies to either Chris Kennedy or Toni Newman at info@aroracing.co.uk or send by post to: ARO, The Racecourse, Newbury, Berkshire, RG147NZ

Taunton, Saturday 15th May

Published 12th May at 12.00 noon

Following an inspection of the course by Chris Kennedy and the Head Groundsman at 9.30am on Wednesday 12th May the going was reported hard, firm in a few places, with the racecourse having only had approximately 11mm of rain in the last month. The meeting has been abandoned and we are hoping to rearrange this fixture.

Registering Your Horse

Published 31st March

With the season fast approaching and in conjunction with the release of the ARO Racing Calendar, if you are planning to run your horse during the early part of the season, we would ask that you send in your registrations no later than 5 days prior to the close of entries for the racemeeting at which you intend to run. For first time jockeys in particular, please do so as soon as possible as you might be required to attend a rider's assessment before the start of the season.

ARO Sponsorship Opportunities 2010

Published 31st March

As I'm sure you are fully aware with the current economic climate, any support from the membership in helping to find potential sponsors for the coming season would be greatly appreciated. We are looking at the minimum sponsorship for races at our meetings starting at £550 and going up to £2,000. Furthermore, we would be looking at £3,000+ for races that feature as part of a Thoroughbred Card. Please contact Chris Kennedy (chris@aroracing.co.uk) for further information or to request details of a general sponsorship pack.
