Raceday Preview
1st race - The Berzan Premier Handicap Stakes
0-75 over 1m 2f
Julian Smart has the Royal Cavalry of Oman’s team in fine
form this season and Mudalal won his maiden well over this
distance at Huntingdon beating Al Harith. Final Fling won a
competitive Premier Handicap over this distance on the
all-weather at Kempton Park last season and has been running
well this term. Owner/Trainer Delyth Thomas’s string are
always formidable on this surface. Pacific Way is
progressing nicely this term and lost her maiden tag when
winning a competitive handicap at Exeter over this trip
beating subsequent winner Notid and she should be
thereabouts.
2nd race - The Al Khor Premier Handicap Stakes
0-55 over 5f
An ideal opportunity for consistent performer Benny The Dip
to get his head in front. He has been placed on all five
starts this term and was a good 2nd to Whisper
over a mile last time out. A winner over this distance and a
confirmed all weather performer he will take all the
beating. Main danger is Sharka who was narrowly beaten over
6f at Huntingdon by Trip To Khairo earlier this month. The
Way To Go can never be discounted at this level, has plenty
of speed, won first time out this season and has been placed
on all her starts since including when 3rd over
8f last time out.
3rd race - The Qatar International Stakes over
1m 4f (Group 2 PA)
Al Moutawakel is a UAE-trained Group 1 winner and finished
only 1½ lengths behind Madjani when 3rd in the
Dubai Kahayla Classic in March of this year. This is his
first visit to the UK and connections will be travelling
with the intention of victory. Jaafer ASF ran with credit in
defeat behind Badad in Qatar Cup in Germany when 2nd
and was the bridesmaid again behind No Risk Al Maury in
Group 1 Dubai Stakes. Aljaareh, Paul De Faust and Quorman
Des Vialettes all ran well in a Premier Handicap on Dubai
Day and re-oppose here at level weights, but they are likely
to struggle to get near the top two.
4th race - The Doha International Stakes over 1m
(Group 2 PA)
No Risk Al Maury, a superstar with 12 wins to his name
including back to back wins in the Group 1 Dubai Stakes over
1m 2f is difficult to oppose here. He has plenty of pace and
a smart turn of foot and this step down in trip shouldn’t be
a problem as he won a competitive Open Handicap over this
trip last term. Dynamite, travelling from France with UAE
trainer Satish Seemar, has an impressive race record
including 2 Group 1 races and several placings behind some
of the best performers in Arabian racing at the moment. He
finished 5th most recently in Hamburg with Jaafer
ASF ahead of him which could suggest he will struggle to get
the better of the selection. Georgina Ward is having a good
season for patron HH Sheikh Mohammed Al Thani; her smart
young colt Mu’azzaz was 3rd on his racecourse
debut in the Group 1 Derby and then won his next start a
competitive conditions event at Hereford over 9f, but he
will have more to do here.
5th race - The Al Rayyan Open International
Premier Handicap Stakes over 1m 2f
This is a very special opportunity for UK racegoers to see
one of the greatest Arabian racehorses of all time with
Champion trainer Gill Duffield fielding the incredible
Madjani. A winner of the Arabian World Cup/Group 1 Kahayla
Classic (1m 2f on dirt) a staggering three times in a row,
he just missed out on a fourth success this year when he was
2nd to Mizzna. He has form, class and talent in
abundance and is difficult to oppose here, although has
plenty of weight to give to his opponents. Georgina Ward
unleashed a potential star of the future when Falak won over
1m4f at Fontwell Park where he had subsequent winners Ejaabi,
Deolali, Meastro Al Maury and Mustajib behind him. He then
followed up in fine style in the mile handicap on Dubai Day
beating Ejaabi and Marsak. The Bill Smith trained Nokomys is
a classy mare who has won 4 races including a Group 2. She
was 2nd over this distance to Magadir on Dubai
Day and has won on the all weather. The track and trip
should suit and this should be a fascinating contest.
6th race - The Ras Laffan Premier Handicap Stakes
0-95 over 6f
Julian Smart’s nice performer Mutafani, owned by the Royal
Cavalry of Oman, won over 8f at Abu Dhabi in the winter and
ran the race of his life in the UK when 2nd to
Quaolina in the Group 1 Zabeel Stakes over this trip. Merwah
has been rapidly improving this season for trainer Helen
Bona; she won at Nottingham over 1m 2f and then bolted home
on the all weather at Kempton Park over this trip in a
Premier Handicap beating the smart Aberfeldy. She looks set
to make the selection pull out all the stops. Angel Picamer
won at Wolverhampton over this trip (beating Mutafani) and
won at this track last term over 8f so cannot be discounted.
