During the season this Jockey’s Directory will guide you to ARO Jockeys including their normal riding weight and contact details.

Next to each jockey’s name you will see his/her normal riding weight.  If this  figure is followed by ‘(5)’ it means that this jockey is a Novice claiming a 5lb allowance.  This allowance applies to any ARO jockey who has not ridden more than 5 winners (including Point-to-Point wins), which helps compensate for their lack of experience.  In practical  terms it means that if a Claimer is due to ride a horse which has been allotted  a weight of, for example, 10st, then the horse can actually carry 9st 9lb, ie.  5lb less than allocated.
